Smallwood clears 13 feet as PRs pile up at Texas Express’s Halloween Vault

Clay Smallwood goes over 13 feet for the first time, and more than a dozen athletes set new personal bests in Princeton.

Clay Smallwood went over 13 feet for the first time at Saturday’s Halloween Vault at Texas Express. He needed all three attempts at 13′1″, which was six inches higher than the 12′7″ he cleared at Jump for Dylan in August. Lorenzo Schiavon won the Gold Boys flight at 15′7″, and Grayson Richardson was the top high schooler at 15′1″.

Rachel Schmoekel came away with the biggest PR in the Gold flights. Competing in the Masters division, she cleared 11′8″ on her third attempt, nearly a foot above her previous best of 10′9″. Hailee Bluem cleared 10′2″ on her second attempt, the first time she has gone over 10 feet.

Millie Bissell didn’t miss until 9′0″. She cleared five straight bars on first attempts, topping out at 8′6″, more than two feet higher than the 6′1″ she cleared at Jump for Dylan in August, her only previous meet. Sydney Dunson won Silver Girls at 9′6″ with a six-inch PR, and Danalee Abel cleared 9 feet for the first time.

In Silver Boys, Maximus Carlson made 11′10″ on his third attempt. That was nine inches above his previous best, and it put him second behind Grant Stark, who cleared the same height with fewer misses. Jackson Fredericks cleared five straight bars on first attempts. His last clearance, at 11′4″, was his first time over 11 feet and a nine-inch PR.

Krawford Kekuna cleared 10′0″ on his first attempt, his first time clearing 10 feet and the top mark among junior high boys. Gibson Nalley edged his best by an inch, clearing 9′2″ on his third attempt.

Micah Seals, Hannah Griffin, John Wells, and Talia Horton also set new personal bests.
